The Fool dances and prances along the edge of a precipice. He is the beginning and the end, for the journey of the Tarot is not linear but cyclical, and spirals both up and down. Unconstrained and free of fettering, he can move at will or whim, in all directions and all the worlds, singularly or simultaneously, and even go skipping into any of the other Arcana. As yet, undifferentiated from the infinite, his feet barely touch the earth plane. The knotted kerchief tied to his stick may contain everything or nothing, and his tattered garb is a union of contrasts. Butterflies flutter beside him, signifying his ability to transform, and transform all that he encounters. Only his companion, the little dog at his heels, possessed of animal instinct, can prevent this merry innocent from tumbling headlong into disaster.......[...]
